Egypt’s daily coronavirus infections exceed 1,000 for first time since January
Egypt registered 1,003 new coronavirus cases on Tuesday, the highest single-day rise since 8 January, bringing the total infection tally to 224,517 since the outbreak began last year.
Sixty-one new deaths were reported over the past 24 hours as well, bringing the total number of deaths from the virus to 13,168, as per the country’s health ministry count.
A total of 765 patients have been discharged after recovering from the virus, bringing the total number of recoveries to 168,665.
A noticeable increase in coronavirus infections has been seen over the past weeks as the country has entered a third wave of the pandemic.
Egypt’s highest daily count to date was 1,774 on 19 June during the peak of the first wave.
The second wave reached its peak between the last week of December and the first week of January, with the highest toll hitting 1,418 cases on 31 December.
