Egypt has successfully drilled the North El-Basant-1 exploratory well in the Delta, producing around 10 million cubic feet of natural gas per day, the Ministry of Petroleum said on Monday.
Tests indicate the well adds between 15 and 25 billion cubic feet of gas to Egypt’s reserves. Authorities are finalising procedures to bring the well online.
The well is being brought onto the production grid under an investment programme by UAE-based Dana Gas in partnership with state-owned Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) through El-Wastani Petroleum Company (WASCO). The programme includes drilling 11 new wells aimed at expanding Egypt’s natural gas resources.
