Egypt’s East Port Said Port ranks 3rd globally in World Bank’s CPPI report

Egypt’s East Port Said Port has been ranked the world’s third most efficient container port and the top performer in the region in the 2024 Container Port Performance Index (CPPI), the Suez Canal Economic Zone Authority (SCZONE) said on Tuesday.

The World Bank report highlighted East Port Said as one of the most improved ports globally between 2020 and 2024, climbing from tenth place in 2022. The gains followed major investments, including expansion of the container terminal, the rollout of digital port systems and improved ship scheduling, which cut turnaround times and lifted efficiency.

“Port Said (Egypt, Arab Rep.) is among the most improved container ports between 2020 and 2024, now ranked 3rd globally, and 1st among its regional peers. Egypt’s overall trade logistics have also improved, with the country ranked 57th of 139 in the World Bank’s 2023 Logistics Performance Index, highlighting broader progress in port operations and hinterland connectivity that benefited Port Said.”

Egypt’s broader trade logistics have also advanced, with the country ranked 57th out of 139 in the World Bank’s 2023 Logistics Performance Index.

The CPPI report noted that expansion of the Suez Canal Container Terminal is underway, which will add 2.1 million containers in annual capacity, bringing the port’s total to 6.6 million and further reinforcing Egypt’s position as a regional trade hub.
