Egypt’s East Port Said Port received the MV PAROSHIP on Sunday morning, arriving from Mauritania, marking the largest dry bulk carrier ever to berth at an Egyptian port. The vessel docked at the multi-purpose Sky Ports terminal, highlighting the port’s growing operational capabilities and readiness to handle giant ships.
The MV PAROSHIP carries approximately 180,000 tons of cargo, surpassing the port’s previous record for Cape Size vessels, which handled around 165,000 tons. Measuring 292 metres in length and 45 metres in width, the ship underscores the port’s adequate depths, efficient berths, and robust infrastructure, as well as the operational readiness of the Sky Ports terminal.
According to officials, receiving the vessel marks a milestone not only for the Sky Ports terminal but for Egypt’s port sector as a whole. Sky Ports has invested $15 million in the latest German-made Gottwald cranes to reduce ship waiting times, increase terminal capacity, and prepare for vessels of this size.
These upgrades enhance the port’s capacity, operational efficiency, and appeal to major shipping lines, reinforcing Egypt’s position as a regional and global logistics hub capable of offering faster and lower-cost cargo handling.
The MV PAROSHIP’s arrival is particularly significant as it represents a new class of giant dry bulk carriers previously unreceived at Egyptian ports. Designed to transport exceptionally large cargoes, the MV PAROSHIP ranks among the largest commercial dry bulk carriers operating globally.
