Egypt’s ECA, Cairo Chamber ink deal to ease customs procedures

Egypt’s Customs Authority (ECA) signed a cooperation protocol with the Cairo Chamber of Commerce on Sunday aimed at speeding up clearance times, easing procedures at customs outlets and lowering costs for producers and exporters, the authority said in a statement Saturday.

The agreement is part of government efforts to build trust with the business community and attract investment, ECA head Ahmed Amawi said. Finance Minister Ahmed Kouchouk has instructed the authority to strengthen partnerships with the private sector to spur production and investment, he added.

Amawi said the customs risk‑management system enables detailed data analysis and classification of goods by risk level, helping to reduce disputes and simplify processes. He stressed the importance of maintaining a regular dialogue with businesses to address challenges and support economic growth.

Cairo Chamber of Commerce chairman Ayman Ashry said the protocol will enhance cooperation between customs and the commercial sector, helping to resolve obstacles faced by companies dealing with the customs system.
