A major economic summit aimed at encouraging international investment in Egypt will be held 13 March for three days in the resort town of Sharm El-Sheikh, Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab announced Saturday.
The summit, which was first called for by Saudi Arabia following the ouster of former president Mohamed Morsi, was originally scheduled for 21 February but then postponed as the date coincided with the Chinese New Year.
Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates are co-organising the summit with Egypt with two international consultancy firms, said Mahlab.
The government is also working on settling commercial disputes and reforming investment laws ahead of the summit, added Mahlab.
A mission from the IMF (International Monetary Fund) is currently visiting Egypt to assess the country’s economic and financial affairs ahead of the summit, following a call by Egypt for an Article IV consultation.
