Egypt’s El-Wazir heads to China for War of Resistance anniversary

Egypt’s Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport Kamel El-Wazir flew to China on Monday as President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s envoy for events marking the 80th anniversary of China’s wartime victory over Japan.

The Beijing celebrations will draw heads of state, senior government officials, and international delegations to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression.

Minister El-Wazir said in a statement that the visit reflects the strength of Egypt-China ties, elevated to a “comprehensive strategic partnership” in 2014. In January, the two countries signed a 2024–2028 executive programme to deepen cooperation.

He added that China is Egypt’s largest trading partner and called more Chinese companies to invest in Egypt, particularly in industry and infrastructure.

During the trip, Minister El-Wazir is scheduled to hold talks with executives from leading Chinese firms to review existing projects and explore new investment opportunities in Egypt.
