Egypt’s ELAB achieves record production, plans expansion – ministry

Egypt’s petroleum company ELAB reported on Monday its highest production since inception, reaching 141,000 tons of linear alkylbenzene (LAB), the Ministry of Petroleum said. The company also announced plans to expand both storage and production capacity.

The milestone was highlighted during ELAB’s 2025 general assembly, where Minister of Petroleum Karim Badawy underscored the company’s central role in Egypt’s petrochemical sector and praised its five-year plan, which includes new projects, product lines, and market expansion. Badawy also emphasised adherence to strict occupational safety standards.

During the meeting, ELAB Chairman Ayman El-Garem confirmed that LAB remains the company’s primary product, meeting domestic demand and exporting surpluses to Europe, Africa, and Asia. He said production has increased through a capacity expansion project, raising output to 141 per cent of design capacity.

El-Garem added that the company has converted 80 per cent of kerosene feedstock into internationally standardised aviation fuel, increased kerosene volumes in coordination with the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC), and transformed its administrative building into a fully “green building” powered by a 465 kW solar station.
