Egypt’s food exports reached 143,000 tons in the week through October 11, marking a 28.5 per cent decline from the previous week, the National Food Safety Authority (NFSA) reported on Sunday.
This figure reflects a wide variety of over 585 fresh fruits, vegetables, and other food items.
Egypt’s vegetable export portfolio boasted 50 different varieties, with a total volume of around 33,000 tons. Sweet potatoes emerged as the top exports at 12,000 tons followed by beans with a total of 8,000 tons.
Meanwhile, mango was the top exported fruit last week, with 12,000 tons, followed by pomegranates at11,000 tons, and lemon at 5,000 tons. Around 30,000 tons of 42 fruit varieties were exported.
Egyptian food exports cater to a vast international audience. During the week of October 5-11, shipments reached 165 countries. Sudan, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, and Netherlands emerged as the top destinations for this bounty of Egyptian produce.
