Egypt’s food exports hit 227k tons during Dec 21-27
Egypt’s food exports reached approximately 227,000 tons during the week of December 21-27, an 8 per cent rise from the previous week, according to the National Food Safety Authority’s report.
The exports included 630 varieties of vegetables, fruits, flour, and other food items.
Egypt’s vegetable export portfolio boasted 66 different varieties, with a total volume of around 48,000 tons. Tomatoes emerged on the top with 10,000 tons followed by sweet potatoes with a total of 7,000 tons, and beans at 6,000 tons.
Last week, citrus fruit was the most exported fruit with 60,000 tons, followed by strawberries at 7,000 tons, and dates at 4,000 tons. The report showed that around 77,000 tons of 36 fruit varieties were exported.
Egyptian food exports cater to a vast international audience. During the week of December 21-27, shipments reached 172 countries. Saudi Arabia, Sudan, UAE, and Russia emerged as the top destinations for this bounty of Egyptian produce.
