Egypt exported 285,000 tons of food products in the week to 13 Feb., the National Food Safety Authority (NFSA) said in a weekly report on Sunday, highlighting steady demand for the country’s agricultural produce.
The shipments comprised 6,765 consignments sent by 544 exporting companies and covered around 748 varieties of food products, including fruits, vegetables, grains, and processed food items, according to the authority.
Fruit exports totalled 105,000 tons across 34 varieties, with citrus fruits accounting for the bulk at 90,000 tons. Strawberries followed at 12,000 tons, while other fruits made up around 3,000 tons.
Vegetable exports reached 80,000 tons across 42 varieties. Potatoes led shipments at 30,000 tons, followed by sweet potatoes at 10,000 tons and onions at 8,000 tons.
Egyptian food products were exported to 185 countries during the week, with Russia, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Syria and the Netherlands among the top destinations, the authority said.
