Egypt’s food exports hit record $4.b in Jan-Aug: FEC

Egypt’s food exports rose 9 per cent in the first eight months of 2025 to a record $4.6 billion, up from $4.2 billion a year earlier, the Food Export Council (FEC) said on Monday.

The $368 million increase marked the sector’s highest level on record for the period, according to the council’s latest data.

“The surge underscores the rising importance of Egypt’s food industry, which now makes up around 14 per cent of non-oil exports, ranking as the country’s third-largest non-oil export sector during the period.” FEC said.

Arab countries remained the top destination, taking $2.2 billion worth of shipments — 48 per cent of the total — despite a 5 per cent drop from last year.

Exports to the European Union climbed 8 per cent to $962 million, or 21 per ent of the total, while sales to non-Arab African countries edged up 3 per cent to $345 million, a 7 per cent share.

The United States recorded the strongest growth among key markets, with imports up 38 per cent to $304 million, also 7 per cent of the total. Shipments to other global markets jumped 36 per cent to $798 million, representing the remaining 17 per cent.
