Egypt’s food exports increase 26% in week
Egypt’s food exports reached approximately 202,000 tons during the week of December 7-13, a 26.25 per cent rise from the previous week, according to the Cabinet’s report. The exports included 605 varieties of vegetables, fruits, flour, and other food items.
Egypt’s vegetable export portfolio boasted 66 different varieties, with a total volume of around 47,000 tons. Sweet potatoes emerged on the top at 12,000 tons followed by tomatoes with a total of 8,000 tons, and beans at 6,000 tons.
Last week, citrus fruit was the most exported fruit with 47,000 tons, followed by dates at 6,000 tons, and strawberries at 5,000 tons. Around 67,000 tons of 34 fruit varieties were exported, the report showed.
Egyptian food exports cater to a vast international audience. During the week of December 7-13, shipments reached 150 countries. Saudi Arabia, Russia, Sudan, and Libya emerged as the top destinations for this bounty of Egyptian produce.
