Egypt’s food exports reached 166,000 tons in the week through September 20, marking a 7.7 per cent decline from the previous week, the National Food Safety Authority (NFSA) reported on Sunday.
This figure reflects a wide variety of over 584 fresh fruits, vegetables, and other food items.
Egypt’s vegetable export portfolio boasted 57 different varieties, with a total volume of around 36,000 tons. Beans and sweet potatoes emerged as the top exports, each accounting for 10,000 tons and onions also recorded 8,000 tons.
Meanwhile, mango was the top exported fruit last week, with 12,000 tons, followed by pomegranates at 8,000 tons, and strawberries at 5,000 tons. Around 30,000 tons of 47 fruit varieties were exported.
Egyptian food exports cater to a vast international audience. During the week of September 14-20, shipments reached 160 countries. Sudan, Saudi Arabia, UK, and Libya emerged as the top destinations for this bounty of Egyptian produce.
