Egypt’s food exports reached 174,000 tons in the week through October 18, a 21.6 per cent rise from the previous week, the National Food Safety Authority (NFSA) reported on Sunday. This figure reflects a wide variety of over 605 fresh fruits, vegetables, and other food items.
Egypt’s vegetable export portfolio boasted 55 different varieties, with a total volume of around 40,000 tons. Sweet potatoes emerged on the top at 11,000 tons followed by beans with a total of 10,000 tons.
Meanwhile, pomegranate was the top exported fruit last week, with 15,000 tons, followed by mangoes at 9,000 tons, and lemon at 5,000 tons. Around 35,000 tons of 38 fruit varieties were exported.
Egyptian food exports cater to a vast international audience. During the week of October 12-18, shipments reached 170 countries. Sudan, Saudi Arabia, Morocco, and Yamen emerged as the top destinations for this bounty of Egyptian produce.
