Egypt’s food industries sector is getting ready to receive the holy month of Ramadan (an Islamic month during which Muslims fast) by redoubling the production of some commodities that highly needed during the month such as the dairy and eastern sweets. Moreover, a number of factories will intensify its production in the coming days to meet the markets’ needs especially after the one-week suspension because of the protests.
Mohamed Shokry, a member of the food industries chamber, at Federation of Egyptian Industries (FEI), said manufacturing the dairy products particularly the yogurt increased two times, while the eastern sweets increased five times.
Shokry added that the production of Halawani factory as well as soda was multiplied; indicating that the productive capacity for food factories rose during the last months from 25% to 30%.
On his part, Alaa El Bahay, Chairman of Food Export Council (FEC), said most factories are working on intensifying their production nowadays to meet the increasing demand of the consumers on the commodities that are being used in Ramadan.
