Egypt’s former Zamalek manager Christian Gross said on Sunday he would retire, following a successful career that ran for over 32 years.
The 65-year-old, who is one of the most important coaches in Switzerland, declared his retirement during an interview with Swiss channel SRF.
Gross took charge of Zamalek last season and helped them win the Confederation Cup last summer, the first such win in the club’s history.
The African title was the last of 16 different titles Gross secured in the course of his career.
After his experience with Zamalek, the veteran coach was appointed by Saudi team Ahly Jeddah as coach for a third spell, but he was sacked in February due to disappointing results in the Saudi league.
Gross managed many topflight teams in his home country, including Basel, Young Boys and Grasshoppers. He also had an experience in the Premier League with Tottenham in 1999 as well as in the Bundesliga with Stuttgart in 2010.
