Egypt’s fuel imports bill sags by 15.3% in 5 months – CAPMAS

Egypt’s bill of imported fuel sagged by 15.8 percent during the first five months of 2016 to 29.3 billion pounds (US$3.3 billion) from 34.8 billion pounds a year earlier.

The monthly bulletin released by Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) on Thursday showed that the volume of importing fuel dropped in May 2016 by 12.9 percent to 8.2 billion pounds opposed to 9.4 billion in May 2015.

The imports of crude oil witnessed a sharp decline during January-May 2016 to 1.5 billion pounds compared to 5.5 billion pounds at the same period of 2015, registering 72.5 percent decline.

While in May 2016, Egypt’s crude oil imports decreased to 143.9 million pounds versus 906.4 million pounds in May 2015.

The bulletin stated that Egypt’s imports of petroleum products recorded 27.2 billion pounds in January-May 2015 compared to 28.7 billion at the same period of 2015, registering a 5.1 percent decline.
