Wheat imports in Egypt are witnessing a 40 percent decline this fiscal year, vice chairman of the state-grain buyer told Amwal Al Ghad on Thursday.
Mamdouh Abdel Fattah, Vice Chairman of the General Authority for Supply Commodities (GASC), said Egypt had imported 4.6 million tonnes of wheat worth US$1.2 billion during the current fiscal year, compared to 6.4 million tonnes last year.
Egypt is considered to be one of the world’s largest wheat importers.
