Egypt’s state grains buyer, General Authority for Supply Commodities (GASC) announced on Tuesday that it has purchased 235,000 tons of Russian wheat in an international tender.
The purchase is split into 175,000 metric tons for September 15-30 shipment, and 60,000 metric tons for October 1-15 shipment, the GASC said.
Only four trading houses presented offers to the GASC in the tender. This came as a low number of participants for tenders from one of the world’s most important customers for wheat sellers.
The reason behind that is believed to be the concerns that ocean shipping from Russia may face disturbance after a Ukrainian attack on a Russian tanker over the weekend.
