Grand Egyptian Museum receives UNESCO’s Prix Versailles Award for 2024

The Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) received the prestigious Prix Versailles for 2024, naming it one of the world’s most beautiful museums, according to a statement from the Egyptian Cabinet on Sunday. The Prix Versailles World Ceremony was held on 2 December 2024 at UNESCO headquarters in Paris.

Announced each year at UNESCO since 2015, the Prix Versailles is an annual architectural competition recognizing the world’s most outstanding contemporary projects. A prestigious World Jury selects 24 global winners across eight categories: Airports, Campuses, Passenger Stations, Sports, Museums, Emporiums, Hotels, and Restaurants.

Honouring innovation, creativity, and local heritage, the competition aligns with intelligent sustainability, considering each project’s ecological, social, and cultural impact—values highly regarded by the United Nations.
