Egypt’s Gulf of Suez Petroleum Company (GUPCO) has drilled a new exploratory well in the Gulf of Suez, producing around 2,500 barrels of oil per day and 3 million cubic feet of gas, the petroleum ministry said on Tuesday.
The well, South Al Wasl-BB, was brought online immediately through existing production facilities, lifting the company’s total output to about 67,000 barrels per day, the ministry said.
The project is being carried out in partnership with the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) and UAE-based Dragon Oil.
The ministry said the discovery underscores the potential of mature Gulf of Suez fields to sustain production through the use of advanced technologies.
These include three-dimensional seismic surveys using ocean-bottom node arrays, which have helped identify previously unclear geological structures and open new exploration areas, it added.
