Egypt’s annual headline inflation increased by 36.5 percent in July from 35.7 the previous month, as food prices soared, data from the country’s Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics (CAPMAS) showed on Thursday.
The report added that the price increases were recorded in every item of the food and beverages basket, with fruit prices witnessing the highest increase of 12.5 percent compared to June.
The country’s annual inflation rate was due to a 68.2 percent increase in food and beverages in July year-on-year. Grain and bread prices rose by 55.7 percent, and meat and poultry prices increased by 93.4 percent.
