Egypt’s health, housing ministries partner to boost medical infrastructure

Egypt’s ministries of health and housing signed a memorandum of understanding on Monday to develop healthcare infrastructure in new cities, including the construction of modern hospitals that meet international standards, they said in a joint statement.

The agreement aims to align new healthcare projects with the state’s Vision 2030 strategy for sustainable development and improved access to quality medical services.

Minister of Housing Sherif El-Sherbiny and Minister of Health Khaled Abdel Ghaffar witnessed the signing and reviewed joint projects, including key initiatives in the North Coast and new urban communities.

Talks focused on a plan to build New Alamein Hospital, an expansion of the existing Alamein Model Hospital. The new facility will feature 196 beds, 30 dialysis units, eight operating rooms, 18 outpatient clinics, five laboratories, and a central blood bank, according to the statement.

The ministers also discussed upgrading Ras El Hekma Hospital and developing a specialised mental health, addiction treatment, and geriatrics facility in New Alamein, part of Egypt’s broader effort to expand mental health services nationwide.
