Egypt’s Suez Canal Authority (SCA) Chairman Osama Rabie met with Housing Minister Sherif El-Sherbiny to explore avenues of cooperation on development and service projects in the Canal cities, the authority said in a statement on Monday.
Discussions centered on potable water supply requirements in Canal cities and national strategies to build desalination plants, aligning with President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi’s directives to improve service infrastructure and address future drinking water needs.
Rabie stressed that the SCA is a key partner in securing potable water for the Canal cities and is committed to supporting national service projects. He highlighted the Authority’s expertise in advanced water treatment technologies and reiterated that water security remains a top priority for Egypt’s leadership.
El-Sherbiny emphasised the need to increase water desalination projects, with a focus on utilising modern technologies and private-sector collaboration to localise industries and lower costs. The ministry’s strategic plan involves establishing new desalination facilities on the northwestern coast and Canal cities.
The meeting also reviewed a study for establishing desalination plants in the three Canal cities in partnership with the private sector. Both sides agreed to form a joint working group to follow up on the project’s details in upcoming meetings.
