Egypt’s Minister of Housing Sherif El-Sherbiny has instructed the bodies concerned to prepare an immediate and comprehensive report on all main and internal roads maintenance across the country’s new urban communities.
During a meeting on Monday, the minister also directed authorities to enhance road signage in high-risk areas and to ensure clear markings during ongoing maintenance. Additionally, he called for proper coordination between the relevant departments on traffic diversions to minimise disruption and ensure public safety.
Emphasising the importance of workplace safety, El-Sherbiny called for the strict enforcement of occupational safety and health standards. He urged the launch of training sessions and awareness campaigns to protect workers and reduce the risk of accidents during construction and maintenance operations.
El-Sherbiny also stressed the need for routine road maintenance and continuous on-site monitoring to ensure tangible, long-term improvements. He highlighted the role of well-maintained roads in reducing traffic accidents and preventing obstructions for both vehicles and pedestrians. The move is part of efforts to prioritise timely intervention and improve overall infrastructure efficiency. Moreover, these measures fall within a broader strategy to raise infrastructure and safety standards across Egypt’s rapidly expanding new cities.
