Egypt’s Deputy Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities Sayed Ismail met with World Bank (WB) and International Finance Corporation (IFC) representatives on Monday to discuss future collaboration in the utilities sector, the Egyptian Cabinet reported.
World Bank representatives presented a set of proposed projects aimed at reducing water loss, improving wastewater sludge management, and establishing a public-private partnership (PPP) unit.
Ismail emphasised that these projects align with Egypt’s National Water and Sanitation Sector Strategy (NWSSS) 2050, which focuses on sustainable water services, minimising unaccounted-for water, and optimising sludge reuse.
The deputy minister highlighted Egypt’s long-term investment plan for the utilities sector, including post-Decent Life Initiative projects. He also noted the government’s efforts to enhance PPP frameworks, particularly for desalination and sludge management projects.
The meeting concluded with an agreement to develop an implementation roadmap for the proposed initiatives in cooperation with the World Bank.
