Egypt’s Hurghada Airport hits record 53,000 passengers as winter tourism season begins

Egypt’s Hurghada International Airport handled more than 53,000 passengers on 25 Oct., marking its highest daily traffic level on record and signalling a strong start to the 2025 winter tourism season, the civil aviation ministry said on Monday.

Passenger numbers reached 53,169, up 21.2 per cent from 43,869 on the same day last year, while flight movements rose 16 per cent to 335 from 289 in 2024, the ministry added in a statement.

The surge highlights growing demand for travel to Egypt’s Red Sea resorts and reflects government efforts to boost tourism and aviation as key drivers of economic growth.

The ministry said it continues to upgrade airport infrastructure and passenger services to improve operational efficiency and accommodate rising air traffic. It also plans new development projects to expand capacity in the coming months.

Egypt is working with international carriers to broaden air connectivity and attract more visitors from key markets, particularly in Europe, the ministry added.

Hurghada, one of Egypt’s top tourist destinations, is expected to see further increases in flights and arrivals as peak winter travel demand continues to build, it said.
