Egypt’s imports of Chinese, Saudi iron reach $520 mln in 9 months

Egypt’s imports of Chinese and Saudi iron and steel fell by 0.4 percent during the first nine months of 2023 to record $520.466 million, down from $522.783 million in the same period of 2022, the country’s official statistics agency said on Monday.

Egypt’s iron and steel imports from China and Saudi Arabia grew by 128.1 percent in September to $113 million, compared to $49.529 million in the same month of 2022, the data revealed.

The country’s imports of iron and steel from China fell to $462.223 million during the first nine months of this year, compared to $511.413 million during the same period in 2022, a decrease of 9.6 percent.

While Egypt’s iron and steel import bill from Saudi Arabia grew to $58.243 million in the first nine months of 2023, compared to $11.37 million in the same period of 2022, the data added.
