Egypt’s industrial production index up in Dec. ’24
Egypt’s manufacturing and extractive industries production index (excluding crude oil and petroleum products) showed a notable 8.25 per cent increase to 118.05 in December 2024 from 109.05 in November, the statistics agency reported on Wednesday.
The updated index methodology, implemented since January 2020, utilises the base year 2012/2013 and aligns with the International Standard Industrial Classification (ISIC Rev.4). It also incorporates the monthly producer price index for improved accuracy.
Industries Showing Growth
Paper and Paper Products: The index rose to 79.72 in December from 75.08 in November, marking a 6.19 per cent increase attributed to higher production of books.
The Electrical Appliances: December’s index reached 95.61, up from 93.28 in November, marking a 2.50 per cent increase in response to market needs.
Industries Facing Declines
Food Products: The index dropped to 114.69 in December, down from 119.47 in November, registering a 4.00 per cent decrease according to supply and demand.
Tobacco: The index fell sharply to 166.95 in December, from 172.47 in November, representing a 3.20 per cent decline attributed to market needs.
