Egypt’s IT sector drives digital growth
Egypt’s IT sector has been the fastest-growing sector in the country over the past six years, driving national development. Its contribution to the GDP rose from 3.2 per cent six years ago to 5.8 per cent in the last fiscal year, with a future target to reach 8 per cent.
During the graduation ceremony of the Digital Egypt Builders Initiative (DEBI) third cohort, the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), Amr Talaat emphasised the programme’s inclusivity. He highlighted that the initiative ensures providing necessary facilities and accommodations for students from all governorates so that they can participate in the programme which aims to develop skills essential for building a comprehensive digital society.
The Minister further noted the impressive employment rates of the initiative’s graduates, with the first cohort achieving a 100 per cent employment rate, the second cohort 85 per cent, and the recently graduated third cohort already reaching 55 per cent employment.
The Minister underscored the initiative’s role in positioning Egypt as a leader in the digital domain by fostering specialised talent in IT and communications, contributing to the country’s development and future growth.
