Egypt’s manufacturing, extractive industries index 5.24% up in Oct.: CAPMAS

Egypt’s manufacturing and extractive industries production index showed a notable 5.24 per cent increase to 112.32 in October from 106.73 in September, according to preliminary data by official statistics agency, CAPMAS on Monday.

The updated index methodology, implemented since January 2020, utilizes the base year 2012/2013 and aligns with the International Standard Industrial Classification (ISIC Rev.4). It also incorporates the monthly producer price index for improved accuracy.

In October 2024, the production index (excluding crude oil and petroleum products) reached 112.32, up from 106.73 in September 2024, indicating a steady upward trend in industrial output.

Industries Showing Growth

  • Tobacco Products: The index climbed to 159.36 in October, compared to 147.63 in September, reflecting a 7.95 per cent rise fueled by increased market demand.
  • Paper and Paper Products: October’s index reached 77.73, up from 72.67 in September, marking a 6.96 per cent increase in response to market needs.

Industries Facing Declines

  • Textiles: The index dropped to 170.20 in October, down from 185.42 in September, registering an 8.21 per cent decrease due to changing market conditions.
  • Leather and Leather Products: The index fell sharply to 38.48 in October, from 43.93 in September, representing a 12.41 per cent decline attributed to reduced market demand.
