Egypt’s manufacturing index up 7.4% in July on paper, cement gains: CAPMAS

Egypt’s manufacturing and extractive industries index, excluding crude oil and petroleum products, rose 7.4 per cent in July to 127.52 points from 118.71 in June, the state statistics agency CAPMAS said in report obtained by Amwal Al Ghad English on Thursday.

The agency noted that the index is compiled using the 2012/2013 fiscal year as a base, in line with the International Standard Industrial Classification (ISIC Rev.4). CAPMAS has applied the monthly producer price index to the calculation since January 2020.

Industries with increased output:

The paper and products industry surged 24.19 per cent to 73.61 points in July, supported by the back-to-school season.

The non-metallic mineral products industry (including bricks, glass, and cement) climbed 19.04 per cent to 89.27 points on stronger supply and demand.

Industries with decreased output:

The tobacco products index dropped 5.54 per cent to 133.33 points due to lower demand, while other transport equipment recorded a 17.59 per cent decline to 514.71 points as companies required longer production times.
