Egypt’s monthly inflation rises 1.3% in Oct, annual rate eases to 10.1%: CAPMAS

Egypt’s monthly inflation rose 1.3 per cent in October 2025, driven mainly by higher food and housing costs, the state statistics agency CAPMAS said Monday.

The consumer price index for the country as a whole reached 264.3 points in October, up from September’s level, with notable increases in the prices of vegetables, dairy products, tobacco, clothing, and rent.

Vegetable prices jumped 12.9 per cent on the month, while dairy, cheese and eggs rose 1.9 per cent, and ready-made clothing increased 1.3 per cent. Tobacco prices were up 0.7 per cent, and actual housing rents climbed 0.7 per cent.

The rise came despite declines in the prices of fruits, which fell 10.6 per cent, as well as fish and seafood, down 0.3 per cent.

Annual inflation slowed slightly to 10.1 per cent in October, compared with 10.3 per cent in September, as food prices stabilised and some categories recorded modest year-on-year gains.

CAPMAS said food and beverage prices rose just 0.1 per cent from a year earlier, with sharp increases in fruit and oil prices offset by declines in meat and vegetable prices.

Other key annual increases included:

* Alcoholic beverages and tobacco (up 26%)
* Healthcare (up 27.7%)
* Housing, electricity, gas and fuel (up 20.7%)
* Transport (up 20.5%)
* Education (up 10%)
