Egypt’s MSMEDA invests EGP 18b in women-led projects since 2014

Egypt’s Medium, Small and Micro Enterprise Development Agency (MSMEDA) has channelled 18 billion Egyptian pounds into women-led projects nationwide since July 2014, generating about 1.2 million jobs, CEO Basil Rahmy said on Monday.

Speaking at the CEO Women Conference in Cairo, Rahmy said the agency is intensifying efforts to build the capacity of women entrepreneurs and business owners by expanding access to technology and digital tools that enhance productivity and sustainability.

He reaffirmed MSMEDA’s commitment to empowering women across business, production, and investment, calling them “vital contributors to Egypt’s economic growth.” The agency, he added, is placing greater focus on supporting women in technology-driven fields as a key driver of project innovation.

Rahmy said MSMEDA works with national institutions and international partners to promote women’s economic participation, particularly in sectors that rely on technological advancement.

He also cited the agency’s Tamouh (Ambition) Programme — a $50 million venture capital initiative backed by the World Bank — which funds innovative startups and small enterprises. MSMEDA also partners with universities and major organisations to host entrepreneurship competitions aimed at nurturing young business leaders.

Rahmy added that the agency continues to modernise its financing and project management systems to align with digital transformation and artificial intelligence applications.
