Egypt’s MSMEDA invests EGP 18b in women-led small, micro projects over 11 years

Egypt’s Medium, Small, and Micro Enterprise Development Agency (MSMEDA) has invested 18 billion Egyptian pounds over the past 11 years in women-led small and micro projects, generating at least 1.2 million jobs, the agency’s CEO Basil Rahmy said Saturday.

Rahmy, speaking at the Carerha Summit, said MSMEDA is expanding both financial and non-financial services to help women establish medium and small businesses and strengthen their economic participation. He added that the agency’s strategy aligns with Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly’s directives to ensure women benefit from all government programmes, while coordinating with national initiatives that support business creation and freelancing.

At the summit, Rahmy highlighted MSMEDA’s partnerships with public and private entities to share expertise through women-focused programmes and foster an environment conducive to starting or growing businesses. The agency is promoting the use of artificial intelligence, digital transformation, and green entrepreneurship, in line with Egypt Vision 2030.

MSMEDA also supports heritage, handicraft, and innovative projects, promotes financial inclusion, and assists women-led micro projects to grow into small and medium enterprises. Rahmy encouraged women across Egypt to visit MSMEDA branches to access financing tools, benefit from incentives under Law 152/2020, and join specialized entrepreneurship training.

He reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to expanding cooperation with partner organisations and implementing initiatives that enhance women’s economic and social empowerment.
