Egypt’s MSMEDA, OECD partner to boost SMEs in MENA

Egypt’s Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency (MSMEDA) is collaborating with the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) to empower small and medium-sized businesses across the region, according to a Cabinet statement.

MSMEDA is taking part in a two-day event, titled “Empowering SMEs in the MENA region in the areas of digitisation, green transformation, availability of financing, and transition to the formal sector. Policymakers and decision-makers from various countries, including Palestine, Morocco, Tunisia, Yemen, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Italy, and Turkey (online), are participating in the workshop. Representatives from the European Union, the Union for the Mediterranean, and donor organisations are also present. In addition to, partner organisations from Egypt are involved, and there is an exhibition featuring environmentally friendly SMEs.

MSMEDA operates through a network of 33 branches nationwide, offering one-stop shop services to the public. It also collaborates with major Egyptian banks, NGOs, and financial institutions specialising in SME financing.

SMEs play a vital role in the region’s economy, providing employment opportunities for 10 per cent to 40 per cent of the workforce, as per the statement.
