Egypt’s National Authority for Tunnels denies land expropriation for metro line extension

Egypt’s National Authority for Tunnels (NAT) on Tuesday dismissed social media reports suggesting land is being seized for the first metro line extension from El Marg El Gedida station to Shebin El Qanater.

The 19-kilometre project, which will include 14 stations, remains under study and is designed to provide a modern, safe, and environmentally-friendly transport solution. NAT said the metro will follow the existing railway corridor, replacing the current line to meet rising transport demand and integrate with other public and private transport modes, while eliminating level crossings to reduce accidents.

The authority stressed that expropriation is used only as a last resort and confirmed the project will remain within the existing railway right-of-way, negating the need for land seizures. NAT urged media and the public to verify information before reporting on national infrastructure projects.
