Egypt’s NFSA, Jumia discuss oversight of online food trade

Egypt’s National Food Safety Authority (NFSA) chief Tarek El-Houby held talks with Jumia Egypt CEO and JumiaPay executive director Abdellatif Olama to explore cooperation on food safety in e-commerce, the authority said on Thursday.

Talks focused on monitoring food products, supplements and sports nutrition sold on digital platforms, and ensuring restaurants and registered suppliers comply with NFSA regulations.

El-Houby said e-commerce had become a central channel for food distribution in Egypt, making tighter oversight and new mechanisms essential to protect consumers. He added that the NFSA is working with industry players to develop regulatory frameworks for online food trade.

Olama welcomed the cooperation, saying Jumia was committed to applying strict quality and safety standards and strengthening internal monitoring to ensure reliable food products for Egyptian consumers.
