Egypt’s NFSA partners with Hayah Karima to ensure food safety

Egypt’s National Food Safety Authority (NFSA) has signed a cooperation protocol with the Hayah Karima Foundation, aiming to enhance collaboration between the government and civil society organisations, according to a Cabinet statement released on Wednesday.

The agreement outlines several initiatives, including the establishment of Egypt’s first accredited central kitchens that comply with food safety regulations. Additionally, NFSA will actively engage in the foundation’s developmental convoys, ensuring food distribution aligns with national safety standards.

NFSA Chairman Tarek El-Houby emphasised the authority’s commitment to enhancing food safety awareness and ensuring food security through strict oversight at every stage of food production and distribution. He stressed that these efforts would protect consumer health and reinforce public confidence in Egypt’s food safety system.

Highlighting the role of collaboration, El-Houby underscored the importance of stronger ties between state institutions and civil society, particularly in supporting vulnerable communities and contributing to Egypt’s 2030 Sustainable Development Vision.

A key component of the partnership will be educating both consumers and food producers about food safety standards and best practices. The initiative also includes training programs for food sector workers to promote safe food handling and foster a culture of reducing food waste across Egyptian society, the statement added.
