Egypt’s non-oil imports fell 13.57 percent to $4.877 billion in June from $5.643 billion during the same month last year, said the General Organization for Import and Export Control (GOEIC) on Wednesday.
Egypt’s imports declined in eight sectors, most prominently in the furniture sector whose imports lessened remarkably to $56 million last June versus $127 million during the same period in 2018, GOEIC further told Egypt Today.
“Imports of leather products logged $11 million, down from $18 million during the compared month of 2018.Moreover, Egypt’s imports of construction materials shrank to $733 million, from $1.92 billion in June 2018,” GOEIC said.
According to GOEIC, Egypt’s imports of electronics and engineering products recorded $1.186 billion, compared to $1.355 billion in the compared period.Imports of chemicals and fertilizers also decreased to $735 million, compared to $808 during the same period last year.
Earlier, Egypt’s non-oil exports increased 5 percent in June, to reach $1.905 billion, compared to$1.81 billion during the same month in 2018.
