Egypt’s Minister of Public Business Sector Mohamed Shimi met on Sunday with Gharbia Governor Ashraf El Gendy during a visit to Tanta Flax company, a subsidiary of the Holding Company for Chemical Industries, as part of a broader tour of development projects in the governorate.
The meeting addressed the company’s modernisation and expansion plans, aimed at boosting its competitiveness and increasing the added value of Egypt’s flax and oil industries.
Discussions also covered the progress of other ministry-affiliated development projects in the governorate, including the comprehensive revamp of Misr Spinning and Weaving Company in El Mahalla El Kubra—a key component of Egypt’s national plan to revitalise the textile sector.
Shimi reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to engaging with parliamentarians and listening to their proposals as essential partners in the country’s development process. He emphasised that continued coordination with MPs helps balance economic and social objectives, particularly in driving integrated development across governorates and creating employment opportunities.
The minister also highlighted the government’s focus on maximising investment returns from state assets and strengthening the role of public enterprises in supporting Egypt’s economy. The development of Tanta Flax company, he said, forms part of a broader strategy to upgrade high-value-added manufacturing industries, better utilise local raw materials, and enhance synergies among affiliated companies.
