Egypt’s petroleum transport reaches 101.3m tons in 2024/2025 – CAPMAS

Egypt’s total quantities transported via petroleum transport means reached 101.3 million metric tons in 2024/2025 at 52 billion Egyptian pounds, compared to 100.8 million metric tons at 46 billion pounds in 2023/2024, marking a 0.5 per cent increase, according to the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).

Quantities transported by railway tankers fell to 289 thousand metric tons from 370 thousand metric tons in 2023/2024, a 21.9 per cent decrease, while barge transport rose slightly to 26.6 million metric tons from 26.4 million metric tons, up 0.8 per cent.

The number of main petroleum pipelines reached 88 lines with a total length of 6.3 thousand km. Transport via pipelines, including petroleum products, crude oil, condensates, and butane, rose to 64.5 million metric tons, compared to 62.7 million tons, a 2.7 per cent increase.

Crude oil and petroleum product transport via leased coastal tankers dropped to 9.8 million tons from 11.2 million tons, a 13 per cent decrease. Natural gas transport reached 60 billion cubic metres, with 99.2 per cent for the domestic market and 0.8 per cent for export, for 4.8 billion pounds, down from 64.4 billion cubic metres and 3.2 billion pounds in 2023/2024, a 7 per cent decline.

Average per capita natural gas consumption stood at 0.5 cubic metres per day in 2024/2025.
