Egypt’s PM declares 1 Nov. public holiday for Grand Egyptian Museum inauguration

Egypt’s Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly announced that Saturday, 1 Nov., will be a paid public holiday to coincide with the inauguration of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), one of the country’s most significant cultural milestones.

The decision came following directives from President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi after reviewing final preparations for the long-awaited opening ceremony, the Cabinet said in a statement on Saturday.

The holiday applies to employees in ministries, government departments, local administrations, public authorities, and state-owned companies, including those in the public business sector, the statement added.

Authorities said the move aims to facilitate movement and security arrangements for the arrival of foreign delegations attending the event, which is expected to draw world leaders, senior officials, and international dignitaries.

The inauguration of the Grand Egyptian Museum, located near the Giza Pyramids, has attracted global attention as Egypt seeks to highlight its cultural heritage and bolster its tourism sector.
