Egypt’s Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly held a meeting on Sunday to follow up on the government’s efforts to ensure the availability of medicines and medical supplies, alongside measures to localise pharmaceutical production, the Cabinet said.
Madbouly emphasised the importance of holding such meetings regularly to ensure a sufficient supply of medicines and medical products to meet the needs of citizens and hospitals, while maintaining a safe stockpile.
He highlighted the coordination among state bodies to secure financial resources for sustaining the supply of drugs, whether in raw materials or in settling dues owed to pharmaceutical companies.
The prime minister highlighted the focus on the pharmaceutical industry, following President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi‘s directives to localise and modernise the sector in Egypt through collaboration with global companies. This, he said, would secure domestic demand while boosting exports, particularly to African markets.
The meeting also reviewed the Egyptian Drug Authority’s (EDA) efforts to apply international quality and accreditation standards, in cooperation with specialised global organisations, according to the announcement.
Officials underscored that such efforts enhance the authority’s role in ensuring efficiency and quality, reinforcing confidence in Egypt’s health and pharmaceutical system at both local and international levels.
Participants further discussed plans to attract foreign investment into the pharmaceuticals and medical supplies sector to bolster local production and ensure availability in the Egyptian market, as stated in the release.
