Egypt’s Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly inaugurated on Thursday the Aleo Pyramids factory, a Chinese-owned facility specialising in metal structures for solar energy cells.
The factory, the first to launch under phase one of MDC’s ready-to-use factories complex in the Sokhna Integrated Industrial Zone within SCZone, operates with a $2 million investment, producing 10,000 tons annually and creating 50 jobs.
The factory manufactures aluminium sections for solar panels under a Plug & Play model, contributing to the localisation of solar module production, a key input for green hydrogen and ammonia industries. It also produces door and window frames.
Built in just five months on a 3,450-square-metre site, the fully factory utilises laser technology and robotics, relying entirely on locally sourced raw materials.
The facility is also Egypt’s first manufacturer of wafer sheets used in solar cell production, providing higher energy efficiency for solar panels.
The second phase of the project will scale up wafer production, reducing reliance on imports—a step towards localising solar cell manufacturing and supporting renewable energy development.
