Egypt’s PM: International backlash grows over Israel’s attacks in Gaza

Egyptian Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly said Thursday a global public consensus is forming for the first time against Israel’s ongoing atrocities in Gaza, following his participation in the high-level segment of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Madbouly, who led Egypt’s delegation and spoke on behalf of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, emphasised that the two-state solution is not only a political and moral imperative but also a regional security necessity. He strongly condemned any attempts to forcibly displace Palestinians, calling such actions ethnic cleansing.

He added that Egypt will host an international reconstruction conference for Gaza once a ceasefire is reached, mobilising funding through the Arab-Islamic plan in coordination with the Palestinian government to help the population remain on its land and recover from the heavy damage caused by the conflict.

During the UN visit, Madbouly participated in a multilateral summit that included US President Donald Trump, leaders of eight Arab states, and member countries of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation. The summit produced a joint statement expressing concern over the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, urging an immediate ceasefire, the release of hostages, and the delivery of humanitarian aid, while condemning forced displacement of Palestinians.

“The meeting underscored the urgent need to restore peace in Gaza and prevent further destabilisation in the region,” Madbouly said at a Cabinet session in Cairo.
