Egypt’s PM Meets Huawei Representatives for agreed-upon Deals

Egypt’s Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab met on Friday, June, 22, with representatives of the Chinese Huawei to discuss the agreed upon deals during March’s Economic Summit.

Minister of Electricity Mohamed Shaker and Chinese Ambassador to Egypt Song Aiguo attended the meeting as well.

The get-together tackled deals agreed upon at the Egypt Economic Development Conference, which was held in Sharm el Sheikh in March, as well as the outcome of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s recent visit to China.

Chinese experts, meanwhile, said talks are underway with the Egyptian authorities over manufacturing prepaid electricity smart meters.

Shaker said the deal will help increase the number of electricity smart meters from 10 million to 35 million devices, thus reducing electricity theft.

Mahlab, for his part, said Egypt is keen on bolstering relations with China in all fields, especially in the energy domain.
