Egypt’s PM opens $4m medical glove factory in Ain Sokhna

The factory expected to produce 60 million nitrile gloves annually

Egypt’s Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly on Sunday inaugurated the Sinai Medical Supplies’ factory in the Ain Sokhna Industrial Zone, part of a drive to localise strategic industries and reduce reliance on imported medical supplies.

The $4 million facility, located within the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE), produces nitrile medical gloves with an annual capacity of 60 million units and provides 100 direct jobs, according to a government statement.

Madbouly said localising the medical supplies industry is key to strengthening Egypt’s healthcare security and boosting exports, urging efforts to attract more investment in strategic industrial sectors such as healthcare and pharmaceuticals.

SCZONE Chairman Waleid Gamal El-Dein described the project as a “strategic addition” that supports Egypt’s industrial localisation and import substitution policies while enhancing export capacity.

According to the statement, the plant will help reduce dependence on imported medical gloves and contribute to developing a domestic value chain for healthcare manufacturing.

During his tour, Madbouly directed officials to secure the local sourcing of raw materials for glove production to help achieve self-sufficiency and support the government’s Made in Egypt Initiative.
