Egypt’s Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly on Saturday inaugurated two newly upgraded production facilities at El Nasr Pharmaceutical Chemicals Company in Qalyubia Governorate, as part of efforts to localise pharmaceutical inputs and strengthen medical manufacturing.
The company, affiliated with the Holding Company for Pharmaceuticals, Chemicals, and Medical Supplies, now hosts a revamped pharmaceutical raw materials plant and a modernised disinfectant factory, according to a government statement.
Yasser Fawzy, Executive Managing Director of El Nasr, said the raw materials factory includes multiple production lines for key active ingredients such as aspirin, paracetamol, metformin, and various citrate, phosphate, and carbonate salts.
The seven-month upgrade, completed in September 2025, cost 136 million Egyptian pounds and raised the plant’s output to 700 tonnes annually. It will supply local producers including EIPICO and Eva Pharma, in addition to factories under the holding company.
Madbouly also toured the disinfectant factory, which underwent a 15 million pound upgrade between December 2024 and September 2025, boosting capacity to 4 million bottles annually to help meet domestic demand.
The upgrades align with Egypt’s strategy to expand local pharmaceutical production and reduce dependence on imports.
